General anesthesia is a medically controlled state of unconsciousness used during surgical or complex dental procedures. Unlike oral sedation or IV sedation, general anesthesia ensures you remain completely asleep and pain-free throughout your treatment.
At Smile Texas®, this service is performed by a licensed anesthesia provider in our state-of-the-art surgical suite, which meets the same safety standards as hospital settings. Continuous monitoring of your heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure ensures your comfort and safety at all times.

General anesthesia may be recommended if you:
Your Smile Texas® surgeon will review your medical history and discuss your options to ensure the safest and most comfortable experience possible.

Before your procedure, we’ll conduct a comprehensive medical review and discuss your anesthesia options. Our team ensures you understand each step of the process and what to expect before, during, and after surgery. We will seek consultation with your medical doctors, and for patients over 50, we will require a pre op EKG. We provide high-level care in a team approach with your medical team.
You’ll arrive with a companion, who will take you home after your visit. Once anesthesia begins, you’ll gently fall asleep, and our surgical team will complete your treatment with precision and care.
After the procedure, you’ll relax in a private recovery area under the supervision of our clinical team. Most patients wake up comfortably within minutes, with little to no memory of the procedure.
General anesthesia in dentistry offers numerous advantages, transforming the dental experience for both patients and practitioners.
